THE REGIONThe QuebradaQuebrada de Humahuaca is a place of spectacular beauty and unique in its geographical and cultural characteristics. It lies along 170 kilometers approximately, where valleys and mountains run from south to north, following the Grande River. When coming from San Salvador de Jujuy, Volcán is the first town in Quebrada de Humahuaca followed by Tumbaya, Purmamarca, Maimará, Tilcara, Huacalera, Uquía and Humahuaca. They are all typical and welcoming little towns where different regional native and Andean cultures can be enjoyed. UNESCO declared Quebrada de Humahuaca World Heritage on July 2nd, 2003. Our beautiful Andean valley, obtained the unanimous vote of the 21 members of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, being classified as a place of “exceptional characteristics.” |
